Origins of The Meyjes Fund Foundation

The Meyjes Fund, officially Stichting Het “Meyjes-Fonds”, was established on 8 April 1904 by Jeremias Meyjes Jr. (1865-1942) and Fokke Eduard Posthumus Meyjes (1865-1926). They explained their reasons for doing so in a letter to the members of the Meyjes family.

Genealogy

The family name Meyjes is derived from the Frisian “Meye” or “Meyes” (son of Meye). Different spellings are in use in different places. According to our family history books, written by qualified genealogists, authentic contemporary documents from about 1780 state that it had been agreed by then that the spelling Meyjes would be generally accepted.

Financial assistance

The primary objective of the Meyjes Fund is to provide financial assistance to members and descendants of the Meyjes family.

As a secondary objective, the foundation can provide student advances, grants and loans and can also support institutions or organisations with which a member of the Meyjes family is closely involved – for example, as a director, trustee, initiator or benefactor.
